Addiction & Healing in Delray Beach

Public forum & community meeting: Thursday, October 2, 7:00 pm
Gandhi at prayer meeting
Gandhi organized countless community meetings to heal divisions in his society. In honor of his birthdate, we invite you to a public forum and community meeting.
<<First Name>>,

When did Delray Beach become known as the drug rehab capital of the U.S. and how did that happen? Are people in treatment facilities here really getting better? What does the growth of sober homes in Delray mean for the average resident and what should the community do about it, if anything?

These and other questions are to be addressed at Addiction & Healing in Delray Beach, a public forum and community meeting, scheduled for October 2 in honor of Mahatma Gandhi’s birthdate in 1869.

The Spady Cultural Heritage Museum, Auroras Voice, and Delray Mothers Against Violence, three local nonprofit organizations, are the organizers of the event. Drug Abuse Foundation will host the event in their auditorium at 400 South Swinton Avenue, Delray Beach.

Panelists for the public forum include long-time community leaders and people touched by addiction and healing:

  • Cary Glickstein, Mayor of Delray Beach
  • Suzanne Spencer, Chairman Delray Beach Drug Task Force
  • Linda Mautner, a mother touched by addiction
  • Pablo del Real, community organizer
  • Jeffrey Goldman, Chief of Delray Beach Police
  • Devin Fox, a young adult touched by addiction

Pamela Brinson, co-founder of Delray Mothers Against Violence, will moderate the public forum, which is scheduled to end at 8:30 p.m.

For people who want to continue the conversation after the forum, organizers invite attendees to network with each other from 8:30 to 9:00 at the same venue.

The goals of the public forum and community meeting include the following:

  • To unite the recovery community, residents, and other members of Delray Beach
  • To educate one another about the realities and myths of the recovery industry in Delray
  • To explore opportunities for healing the entire community

Addiction and Healing in Delray Beach is free and open to the public. On behalf of the Auroras Voice board of directors, I invite you to join us Thursday, October 2, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Drug Abuse Foundation, 400 South Swinton Avenue, Delray Beach, FL 33444.

Please RSVPThank you,
